Yaksha Matcha – an exceptionally refined tea
In the renowned region of Shizuoka, a true treasure is cultivated among gentle, green hills. Here, tea plants thrive in pristine nature, shaped by soft ocean breezes and cool mountain air. This unique microclimate, combined with nutrient-rich volcanic soil, gives the leaves their exceptional quality.
The tea plants used for Yaksha Matcha are carefully shaded under dark nets—an age-old technique that reduces sunlight exposure to just 10% for around 30 days before harvest. This process allows the leaves to develop high levels of theanine and amino acids, responsible for matcha’s signature umami, gentle sweetness, and layered complexity.
Each harvest is carried out by hand, leaf by leaf, ensuring only the finest selection. This meticulous approach preserves the integrity of the leaves, which are then transformed into a delicate, aromatic powder—an invitation to a truly exceptional taste experience.
Unique Terroir: Shizuoka, the Heart of Japanese Tea
Shizuoka is far more than a growing region—it is the soul of Japan’s centuries-old tea culture. Nestled between the majestic Japanese Alps and the Pacific Ocean, this area offers ideal conditions for cultivating exceptional tea.
The warm, humid climate is balanced by cooling sea breezes and rising mountain mist, creating the perfect environment for tea plants to thrive. Mineral-rich volcanic soil nourishes the plants with essential nutrients, enhancing both depth and complexity of flavor.
Terraced tea fields make optimal use of the natural landscape while helping to preserve the local ecosystem. In this remarkable setting, every leaf is grown with the utmost care.
This matcha embodies the essence of Japanese tea tradition in its purest form. Each cup is a journey into the spirit of Shizuoka—a place where craftsmanship, quality, and sustainability come together in an extraordinary expression of matcha.
About Renji
This matcha is the result of passionate craftsmanship and knowledge passed down through generations. Renji, the tea farmer and true artisan, oversees every step of production with meticulous care. His philosophy blends traditional methods with sustainable innovation, including the use of solar energy across his plantations.
After harvest, the tea leaves are gently processed into tencha and slowly dried in a traditional brick kiln, preserving their vivid green color and delicate aroma. The leaves are then carefully de-stemmed and de-veined, leaving only the most tender and valuable part.
Finally, the tea is slowly stone-ground into an ultra-fine powder with a silky texture of just 6 microns. This time-intensive, artisanal process elevates Yaksha Matcha far beyond standard quality—creating an exceptional and unforgettable tasting experience.
